Six tries in dominant home victory

Three tries in the first ten minutes put East London on the road to their first win of the season with a 36-29 win over Campion on Saturday (15 September).
It was the dominance of the home forwards that was the overall difference between the sides and they forged the first score on five minutes. They set up the play for outside centre Will Brown to feed Jack Roach on the right wing and he scored his second try of the season. Fly-half Ryan Billinghurst missed the conversion.
The lead was extended two minutes later. A break by Roach ended with scrum-half Alex Mylchreest scoring under the posts. Billinghurst converted.
On ten minutes Campion conceded a penalty at the breakdown and the home side elected to take a scrum. Bracken picked up from the back and fed Mylchreest on the blind side and he scored his second try. Billinghurst converted for a 19-0 lead.
More East London chances went begging before the visitors got a foothold in the game. Two tries on 17 and 29 minutes, only the first of which was converted, narrowed the gap. A penalty on 34 minutes brought Campion to within four points,
Skipper Nick Parrott scored in the 37th minute after good work from the pack set up the blindside flanker. Billinghurst's conversion attempt hit the upright. With number eight Dan Bracken on the sidelines for a yellow card offence, Campion took advantage just before half-time with a converted try to trail by two points.
Bracken almost made amends on 52 minutes but he lost the ball over the try line. But three minutes later the forwards set up full back Max Stanyard to score his debut try for the club. Billinghurst converted off the post.
East London looked to have extended the lead on 60 minutes but the try by hooker Sam Ames-Reddin ruled out the score for a penalty infringement. A converted try from Campion on 65 minutes brought it back to two points but they then had a player yellow carded for kicking the ball away. On 70 minutes East London made the game safe when a break from inside centre Mo Akbar resulted in Will Brown scoring. The conversion was missed.
Head coach Eddie Gooby was delighted with the first win of the London 3 Essex season. He said: "It's good to get that first victory under our belts. We were so much better than last week and this was a much improved performance. We scored six exceptional tries which shows we can mix it with the best teams in this league. This is a massive confidence booster for the whole club. We were good in all areas and are looking forward to visiting Barking next Saturday."
