Skipper named 1st XV player of the season

East London RFC skipper Dan Bracken was named first team player of the year at the club’s end of season awards and dinner at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Friday (20 April).
The captain, who played every minute of all 18 London 3 Essex league games during the 2017/18 campaign, received the trophy from Bea Stevens, general manager of Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City, who sponsored the awards night.
The gala evening celebrated the efforts of players, volunteers, supporters and sponsors throughout the season.
Number eight Bracken, leading scorer this season with 92 points from 18 tries and one conversion, plus one cup game try, said: “Being named player of the year was a great way to end my final season of first team rugby, especially as it was voted for by my fellow players.”
Young player of the year went to 19-year-old Rob Yiannakou for the third season in succession. Bracken, 37, who won the same award as an eight-year-old, presented the trophy to Yiannakou, who has been called into Cyprus national squad for their Rugby Europe international in Serbia on 28 April.
