Thirteen tries in final away fixture

East London saved their best away performance to the last with an 87-19 victory at Maldon in their final game on the road for the season (24 March).
Thirteen tries including a hat-trick from scrum-half Will Brown showed the dominance East London had over a side who had only been beaten once at home during the 2017/18 campaign.
The visitors were into their stride within two minutes. Sustained pressure from the kick-off saw Brown score on the burst. Fly-half Alan Ferguson converted. Maldon came back with converted tries on five and seven minutes but East London were level two minutes later. Ferguson turned down the opportunity of a kickable penalty and instead went for a quick tap and go. Good hands from second row Rob Yiannakou and Brown set up lock Matthew Schofield for a try converted by Ferguson.
The away side regained the lead on 16 minutes and never looked back. A scrum won against the head saw the ball worked out wide to left wing Kevin O'Donoghue who touched down. The conversion was missed.
The marauding East London pack were now dominant. Yiannakou, Schofield, front row Ben Hogan and flanker Nick Parrott all combined in a flowing move on 20 minutes that Brown finished off. Ferguson converted.
Maldon added an unconverted try on 23 minutes but six minutes later another scrum won against the head saw number eight Bracken pick up and force his way over. Ferguson converted. Skipper Bracken added another as half time approached. A scrum in the corner was again won against the head and Bracken scored. Ferguson converted for a 19-40 lead at the interval.
East London never let up and on 51 minutes Brown set up Parrott to score. Ferguson converted. On 63 minutes Corey Griffiths, who replaced injured Joe Kelly at centre at half-time, sidestepped two Maldon defenders to score. Ferguson converted. Five minutes later a sublime pass by Griffiths from behind his back while in full stride set up Brown for his hat-trick. Ferguson converted.
Two minutes later replacement prop Adrian Samuel scored the first of his two tries when he received a pass from a quick penalty on the five metres line and burst over. Ferguson converted.
Right wing Cooper added to the woes of a now demoralised Maldon defence when he scored on 71 minutes. Ferguson converted. Two minutes later Griffiths added his second when he outpaced Maldon defenders on a diagonal run from just inside half way to the line. Ferguson added his eleventh conversion of the day. Samuel added his second try at the death but the conversion was missed.
Skipper Bracken said: "We have been threatening this kind of performance all season and we are now second in London 3 Essex for the total number of points scored."
Fourth placed East London play their final game of the season on April 7 against Canvey Island who sit one place below them.
