Members of East London Rugby Club got in the swing at the club’s first charity golf day (27 July).
The East London RFC Golf Classic 2024 saw 26 golfers take to Hainault Golf Course for 18 holes in a competition format.
Players were paired into teams for the day. Each golfer received breakfast, lunch and dinner, driving range balls, plenty of liquid courage, a round of golf at one of the best courses in Essex as well as a number of goodies.
Competitions such as longest drive, won by Kevin O’Donoghue, nearest to the pin, won by Rob Vassie, best individual, won by Jack Bishop, and best team, won by Luke Staples-Preston and Ryan Billinghurst, ran throughout the day. There were prizes for highest score, best drip and the killer putt competition. Some of the trophies were made by fellow player Hamish Veitch.
After the awards were handed out, an auction took place to raise money for The Atlas Foundation, one of East London RFC’s associated charities. With golfing gear and East London collectibles up for grabs, players raised £275.
Organiser Rob Vassie said: “We are already looking forward to the East London Golf Classic 2025, which is open to anyone who has ever put a shirt on for the club.”
