Boost for Newham Knights youngsters

East London Rugby Football Club have unveiled a new initiative that will see young members of the club’s Newham Knights junior section be mascots for first team matches at the Memorial Ground in West Ham.
The mascot initiative is supported by all the club’s men’s teams and the East London Vixens ladies team. It allows the club to introduce aspiring young players from the Newham Knights to a match day atmosphere and shows how they can make an impact on the rugby pitch in future.
The Newham Knights are supported by East London RFC’s charity partner Sports Hub E15 and Newham Council. The first mascots lead the two teams out before the home game against Braintree on Saturday (11 November) and also helped observe a two-minute silence to mark Remembrance Day.
Club chairman Nick Bracken said: “Our Newham Knights section introduces young people to rugby and supports the health and well-being of some of Newham’s youngest residents. Congratulations to Nathan and Adam who were our first match day mascots. They did themselves and the club proud.”
The Newham Knights are currently developing a youth side. Training tales place every Sunday morning from 10am to 12pm.
