Eleven tries and seven different scorers caps fantastic team effort

East London scored 11 tries in a strong performance that saw off Maldon 67-7 at the Memorial Ground in West Ham on Saturday (29 September).
The home side opened the scoring on two minutes. From a line out close to the Maldon line, the forwards collected the ball and drove over in the left corner with hooker Lewis Bourke touching down. Fly-half Ryan Billinghurst missed the conversion.
The visitors missed a penalty on 14 minutes but scored their solitary converted try on 21 minutes to briefly take the lead. It lasted only five minutes because after winning another lineout on the left touchline, the ball was worked along the backs for right wing Max Stanyard to score in the opposite corner. The conversion was missed.
Stanyard added his second try on 34 minutes showing his ball dribbling skills to kick forward twice and dive on the ball under the posts. Billinghurst converted. The lead was extended close to the interval when left wing Sean Cooper took a pass from full-back Alex Pearmain to score in the corner. The conversion was missed but East London went in at half-tine 22-7 ahead with the bonus point for four tries already bagged.
Scrum-half Will Brown scored within four minutes of the restart which was the beginning of 45 unanswered points in the second-half. Billinghurst converted. On 48 minutes number eight Nick Parrott scored following good work by second row Matt Schofield and replacement Murray Dunn. Billinghurst added the extra two points.
Brown thought he’d scored on 52 minutes but Stanyard was adjudged to have given a forward pass in the build-up. On 57 minutes a break by Brown fed Mo Akbar for the first of two tries from the outside centre. Billinghurst converted. On 64 minutes replacement Dan Bracken broke and offloaded to Brown who crossed the line. Instead of touching down he popped a short pass to Akbar who scored. Billinghurst converted to take the score to 50 points.
Maldon weren’t helped by losing a player for a yellow card offence on 67 minutes and two minutes later blindside flanker Simon Edscer added to the lead. The conversion was missed. Parrott added his second try with four minutes remaining which Billinghurst converted. Cooper completed the scoring at the death with Pearmain missing the conversion.
The victory left East London in third place in the London 3 Essex division ahead of a visit to fourth placed Braintree on Saturday (6 October).
Head coach Eddie Gooby said: "All credit to Maldon who battled to the final whistle but we just had too much power and pace in a one-sided second half where we scored 45 unanswered points. While this wasn't a complete performance in certain areas, we are still improving overall."
