3rd XV Match report 28th Jan 2010.
It was back to the merit league this week for East London’s thirds, and a home fixture against Runwell.
London started poorly again & gifted the visitor’s two early tries. This woke the home side up, who then started to pressure the visitor’s, & play some entertaining rugby.
Runwell capitalised on some poor London defence & again scored two more tries.
The visitor’s main strike runners were there two second rows & No8 who threatened through the whole game. Excellent tackling by the London back row of Crick.J, Gallagher & Kearenan, meant that the score didn’t become worse. The half finished with Runwell leading by 25 points.
London started the second half with renewed vigour & worked the visitors defence in the early exchanges. London were camped in the opposition 22 and making the defence work very hard, but a series of penalty’s ended in another try for Runwell.
Good lineout work from Crick.J saw the ball driven infield before Murphy released the backs who made good inroads into the visitor’s defence quick rucking & offloading put Maher through under the posts Kelly converted for London’s first score of the game.
London carried on in the same vein, with the veteran second rows Carson & Crick.S belieing there years carrying & making tackles. Good rucking once again led to Deere scoring London’s second try .
Unfortunately it was to little too late for the home side .London had once again paid the price of not starting from the first whistle.
Final score E London 12- 42 Runwell
