In the Red corner we had the Ninja’s and in the other, Millwall Venus. Ding Ding Ding, let round 3 begin!

With the weather in all its glory, the warm up in full swing and a pitch in preparation for Shrek’s return home, the Ninjas echoed their name in the promise of a win for their injured coach Fiona Pocock. Possibly drunk on their previous 2 wins against the Venus’s ladies, major improvements from both sides meant that each team had to work like never before (unknowingly I’m sure). I think we can safely assume that playing stuck in the mud back in the day has never been so useful with the real battle existing between players and mud. The free facials and mud baths didn’t go unappreciated however.

Tackling was a key element of the game right from the start, with everyone whacking in one here or there. Some great hands and adjusting to conditions the Ninja’s scored and converted their first try in no time. Done with great team work the try was scored by Alice Thompson, assisted by Kany Afi and converted by Samantha Leetch. Throughout the Ninja’s back line formed and was rolling like never before, the forwards were hitting rucks and break downs (most of the time) and scrumming like warriors. Millwall continually pounded at our defence and soon after scored a brilliant try. Anon cannon ball Kany came back with a swerve or two and found our try line.

Have you heard about the bird? I said a bird … Yes its Nina Edwards and those speedy little feet of hers that elude the world to her flying and gliding across the pitch, around players like they’re cones at training and a new level of rugby etiquette. As she ever so elegantly places the ball over the try line for the Ninja’s twice. Both converted by Samantha Leetch. The score at half-time 26-5.

Spending much of the second half in Millwall’s half of the pitch, the Ninja’s defence had never looked so good, nor had Millwall’s attack. At least one attempted try from Millwall’s man of the man (KiKi) was held up by the Ladies. Being on the wrong half of the pitch didn’t seem to faze the ladies at all. Continually pounding at Millwall’s defence the Ninja’s slowly worked their way back up the pitch. A few amazing side steps later and some great team work along the width of the pitch Millie scored the final try, converted by Samantha Leetch and that boot of fire.

All players from both sides played absolutely amazingly, not a bad word could be spoken about anyone. The improvements from both sides have been phenomenal. Well done and thank you to everyone who played, spectated and helped in some way or another. Shrek has now made the seconds pitch/swamp his home and all the ladies that played have fulfilled every man’s dream. I mean women rolling around in the mud and wrestling (and all over a ball as well).

Goooo Ninja’s!
